Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2 Getting Released in Digital IMAX!
January 14, 2010
by Alex Billington
Paramount announced today that IMAX will be releasing a digital version of Iron Man 2 in IMAX theaters starting simultaneously with the release of the movie on May 7th. Since it was not shot with IMAX cameras, it will be upconverted using their DRM technology. “The success of the first Iron Man movie catapulted the franchise from the comic books to theatre screens, and we’re excited that the IMAX format will offer fans an even more immersive way to experience the sequel,” said Tim Connors, COO of Marvel Studios. As great as it is to see movies on IMAX screens, it's only truly worth it if was shot in IMAX or uses 3D (like Avatar).
“The rollout of our digital projection system has enabled us to add more films to the slate, and we’re very excited to partner with Marvel
and Paramount on this next installment of the incredible Iron Man franchise," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. I don't want to dig up any dirt again, but every time I write about this kind of news, I start to wonder whether LieMAX is really affecting anything. Avatar has broken so many records that I know it didn't hurt them. But the focus this time is on digital screens, which is exactly what LieMAX is. I'm surprised there's not more of a backlash to this. Will you see Iron Man 2 in IMAX?

Apparently this trailer wasn't supposed to be online until later this weekend, but the first official trailer for The A-Team has ended up online, courtesy of The Film Stage. You better catch this quick or else it's going to be gone and we're going to have to wait until it's officially released this weekend. The A-Team stars D9's Sharlto Copley, Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, Patrick Wilson & Jessica Biel. Yes, this looks as badass (just about as badass as badass can be) as you're expecting it should, which is just awesome. They parachute out in a freakin' tank? Oh hell yes! "I love it when a plan comes together." Enjoy!
Watch the first trailer for Joe Carnahan's The A-Team:
This Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, Pride and Glory) directed and Michael Brandt / Derek Haas (Wanted) written adaptation of the 1980's TV show is about a group of ex-Army Special Forces who work as soldiers while being on the run from the military for a crime they didn't commit. Starring as the elite A-Team are: Sharlto Copley as Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Liam Neeson as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as Sgt. Bosco "B.A." Baracus. 20th Century Fox has already set a June 11th, 2010 release date next year. What did you think of the new trailer?
